Woodard: Stop crying about the Dam Road closure

Will Woodard, Frisco

It seems that as of lately, all I see in the opinion section are people crying and moaning about the closure to Dillon Dam Road. Get over it! First of all, the closure was announced several months ago by the county. I agree the timing may not be the best, but it’s progress. We complained that the road was closed at night. Now we’re complaining that they’re making upgrades to keep it open 24/7. You sound like the tourists that come here for winter and complain that it’s too cold. Is there ever a good time take on a project like this? No! Even if we were doing the work in September or October, there would still be several letters complaining about the closure. I agree with most in saying that the idea of guard shacks and round-abouts on the Dam Road is really stupid and a waste of time and money, but if these are the terms we have to come to with Denver Water to get our road back to being fully open, then I’m all for it. And I don’t mind a little traffic to get to Silverthorne or Dillon for a month. What we (as a county) consider to be traffic is extremely minimal anyways. So suck it up for a little bit, quit whining, deal with 5 more minutes of travel, and remember that at the end of this we’re getting the Dam Road back to being fully open all the time.
