Write the Rockies returns to Summit County Library this winter
The annual Write the Rockies event is returning to Summit County Library this winter, according to a Summit County government press release, and will run from now through March 2025.
The event includes a writing contest and meet-and-greets with authors.
“From my time at the library, I’ve learned that Summit County is full of writers. I’ve seen memoirs, poems, and novels from our patrons — our neighbors,” said library staff member Luke Vidic. “These events are meant to help bring our writers together and be part of a greater community.”
The writing contest is open to Summit County residents ages 11 and up, and offers cash prizes and publication opportunities for winning authors. Poetry and short story submissions are being accepted from now until March 17 at 9 a.m.
The contest will have poetry and short story categories for middle school students, high school students and adults. Each contest will have Spanish and English categories with separate awards. The top three in each category receive a cash award and will have the chance to read their work on Krystal 93.
All submissions of quality will be published in an anthology, available for checkout at all three Summit County Library branches. Writers can submit as many works as they would like, but only one submission can win per category. All work is subject to AI and plagiarism screening.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
