Writers casting ballots on whether to end strike

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES ” Writers Guild of America members are voting in New York and Los Angeles on whether to end their 3-month strike.

Michael Winship, president of the Writers Guild of America, East, says he is confident that Tuesday’s vote would put the entertainment industry back to work as soon as Wednesday.

Voting started in New York. Guild members in Los Angeles set to begin casting ballots later in the day.

Winship says members were well-informed about a tentative contract agreement with studios that was approved Sunday by the guild’s board of directors.

The results of the vote are expected to be available late Tuesday night.

The proposed contract secures writers a share of compensation for Internet-delivered TV shows and movies.
