AURORA Four border collies who competed at the National Western Stock Show were recovered a day after they were reported stolen along with their owners’ pickup, police said.Detectives from this Denver suburb found Dixie, Dottie, Trigger and Ben in a hotel parking lot Monday. The dogs were in metal carriers in the back of a pickup owned by Jim and Patti Chant of Baggs, Wyo. The Chants said the pickup was stolen from a hotel in suburban Northglenn, where they were staying during the stock show.Aurora police Detective Robert Friel said the animals were hungry and cold but appeared to be safe and in good health. Detectives gave the dogs food and water.”I want to emphasize the fact that had the dogs not been found they could have been dead inside the truck in this cold, dark parking lot,” Friel said. The dogs were reunited with their owners shortly before 10 p.m. Monday.”I don’t know what value they have to other people, but they have enormous value to us,” said Jim Chant.
