YCC Home Owners Association: Yacht Club owners don’t understand Dillon’s inconsistency

Last fall the Town of Dillon adopted an ordinance indicating that the right of way (ROW) of the town is not to be used for public purposes. Basically, this was adopted to stop the parking on the town’s ROW located off the traveled streets by the Yacht Club Condominium residents and owners. This is similar to parking at the end of your driveway, on the portion of the driveway that is town ROW.

Several weeks ago it was reported in the Summit Daily that Dillon Police Chief Wray proposed to the council that the town needed to be consistent in its application of the new ordinance on all town residents.

The town mayor and several councilmembers objected to Chief Wray’s suggestion, by indicating that “this would place an undue burden on town residents”.

The Yacht Club has never understood why this “undue burden” that would be placed on the rest of the town does not apply equally to the Yacht Club. It just does not make sense the inconsistencies in their approach; it is almost as if the spoof story that ran in the paper on April 1 had some truth to it, that the town just wants the Yacht Club to go away.

In the end we just wanted to commend Chief Wray for having the integrity to propose the application of the ordinance in a consistent and fair manner.
