You guys are heroes

We are truly indebted to the heroic efforts of those professional men and women who collectively saved our house and property during the recent Ophir Mountain fire at Farmer’s Korner. If it were possible to compensate the public safety superstars who worked around the clock to fight the fire away from our home, we would repay them in a heartbeat. We watched the fire (from the Dillon Reservoir parking lot) spread so rapidly that the amounts of swirling smoke and eerie blackened trees led us to believe our house Ken designed and constructed was doomed. However, the following day, we rounded the corner by the reservoir and observed that the house was amazingly intact. The two of us became overwhelmed with joy and a sense of humility that a true miracle had taken place. Thankfully, the neighbors’ dwellings and acreage were saved, as well, their children found, plus pets and livestock rescued. Also, the evacuation of some Summit High School students attending extracurricular activities and athletic practices seemed orderly. Accordingly, the residents of the area east of the high school, and those to the south had 10 minutes or so to evacuate the dense smoke which quickly consumed their space. This was not an easy task. We wish to offer our sincere appreciation to the following agencies: The Sheriff’s Office, the Red, White and Blue Fire Department supporting Courage, Commitment, Caring, the U.S. Forest Service, the Lake Dillon Fire Authority, the police officers from Silverthorne, Dillon and unknown others, the maintenance team from Rifle, the flight crew of the slurry bomber based in Grand Junction, Xcel and Qwest, plus any other agencies we’re not aware of.
