Young Summit County speakers competing in state

BRECKENRIDGE ” Breckenridge Elementary School fifth graders Kyla McCann and Levi Ascher will be competing in a state oratorical contest Saturday in Denver.

The two won first place at the Optimist Club Oratorical Contest about three weeks ago giving speeches on the topic, “My Biggest Challenge is…” Other students, in fourth and fifth grades, who placed include Vivian Rennie and Anne Parker with second and Lindsey Cooney and Madison Bolthouse with third.

The student’s speeches spanned personal, community and global issues. And during the competition at Frisco Elementary School, it was clear that all the students who participated have high expectations for themselves and are able to be serious, inspiring and joyful about their challenges and successes, a release from the schools said.

The students shared their speeches with the Optimist Club at a breakfast May 2. In the release it says, “The Optimist Club would like to thank the students, families, teachers and volunteers who again made this a memorable experience for all who participated. It is this kind of dedications that makes Summit County and Summit School District so outstanding.”
