About the cover photo

We knew we would receive comments about the picture we ran on page A1 Friday of the triple-fatal accident that occurred Thursday morning on Highway 9.

The picture showed one of the deceased in the foreground of an overall shot of the accident scene. She was covered.

We thought long and hard about it, and as difficult as the picture is, we believe it helped tell a tragic story and delivers a message about the daily dangers that are inherent on the Highway 9 race track between Kremmling and Silverthorne.

We understand that people hardly think twice about these kinds of images when they come from out of the local area or from a war zone. But close to home, people have a greater sensitivity. That is human nature.

None of this likely satisfies the concerns of those who were most upset, but we hope it at least shows we put a lot of thought into use of the photo.
