Cheers and Jeers

Cheers: To all the ski resorts being open now in Summit County. Keystone Resort opened with a 36-hour binge on Friday. Breckenridge Ski Resort decided to open some of its terrain (and terrain park) on Friday, too. Copper Mountain opened a week ago and Arapahoe Basin opened long before Halloween.Cheers: To all the ski patrollers who’ll keep us in line this year. If we talk back, ride too fast, scare a Texan or use our poles in an offensive manner, please excuse us. A firm warning’s all we need (but please let us keep our pass).Jeers: To the person who stole Trinity, a 5-year-old Weimaraner, from her owner in Frisco. Call (866) 453-STOP if you’ve seen the missing dog.Cheers: To the Summit County veterans who spoke to kids in Summit schools on Thursday for Veterans Day. While kids like to spit, frolick, shout, yell, run, poke and dribble, they understand a wise face and a strong voice when they meet one.Jeers: To those truckers who chose not to use chains while climbing the pass during last week’s snowstorms. Both westbound and eastbound lanes of I-70 were shut down due to nothing more than laziness and carelessness.
