Cheers and Jeers

Cheers: Two, four, six, eight, who do we appreciate … To the Summit High School cheerleading squad that earned a berth in the national championships in Orlando, Fla., in February in only its fifth year of existence at the high school. Cheers: To everybody planning to attend the Saturday, Dec. 4, Ski Ball at the Keystone Conference Center to benefit Team Summit. Team Summit needs extra help this year with its fundraising after losing a big benefactor. Tickets are $100 with the cost well repaid with good food, music and camaraderie. The silent auction tables are among the best to be found in the county, especially for gearheads. For tickets, call Laura at (970) 390-9901.Cheers: To the fine folks working the Rotary and Blue Moose community Thanksgiving dinners Thursday. Cheers: To the Mountain Mentors program that matches adult mentors with young people. As the story Friday about Daphne Schroth and Christina Barry showed, life is really about our relationships.Cheers: To the snowmakers and groomers at our four mountains for making the best of a slow-snow start to the season. The terrain that’s been opened has nice surface coverage, with few exceptions. The work was rewarded with a report in the Denver Post that recommended Copper, Keystone and Breckenridge this weekend for traveling skiers and boarders. Cheers: To the skiers, wrestlers, basketball players and swimmers gearing up for the winter sports season at Summit High School. We’re looking forward to some exciting races, games and meets. The boys basketball team, led by coach Mike Rathgeber, worked especially hard this summer and fall to prepare for a breakthrough season. Go Tigers!
