Cheers and Jeers

Editorial

Cheers: To Arapahoe Basin for getting proactive about dealing with potential parking issues for late-comers to some great spring skiing. As The Legend warns us, if you are arriving after 10 a.m. on weekends, and on Monday, Memorial Day, May 30, think hard about parking at River Run at Keystone and taking a free shuttle to the Basin. Basin officials might think about more frequent shuttle runs, our skiing buds tell us.

Cheers: To all of the Summit High students who garnered almost about $243,000 in scholarships and to the community businesses, organizations and others who supplied cash.

Cheers: The bronze bull elk is back in the Frisco roundabout, which was a lonely place while the elk was being put back together after a hit and run took it out.

Cheers: To Sgt. Mark Hanschmidt of Silverthorne who Summit Optimists honored with the Jason Manspeaker Memorial Optimist International Law Enforcement Award. Former sheriff and now state public safety director Joe Morales, who still calls Summit County home, aptly noted there couldn’t be anybody more deserving of the award.

Cheers: To Jane Shields who has truly pumped life into the Summit High School Parent Teacher Student Organization.

Cheers: To the town of Frisco for working to institutionalize recycling with improvements to the town code.

Cheers: To everybody signing up for the Countywide Cleanup Day next Saturday. Volunteers can meet at 9 a.m. at the Miners/Sawmill parking lot in Breckenridge, Walter Byron Park in Frisco, the Dillon Town Hall and behind Rainbow Park in Silverthorne. At noon, each of the towns will have a barbecue lunch to reward the volunteers.
