Cheers and Jeers

CHEERS: To snow. After all, it is the true commerce in our community; and it leaves us thinking of the days in the future when the county is happy, gleeful and carving their way down the slopes.JEERS: To the rewrite of the 1973 Endangered Species Act that was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday. The legislation cancels critical habitat protections for plants and animals on both public and private lands and will require new habitat designations.CHEERS: To the ongoing fundraising help given to victims of this year’s hurricanes in the Gulf. Keep it up.CHEERS: To the regional coalition involving groups in Colorado, New Mexico, Montana and Wyoming to address concerns about energy development. As drilling requests continue to set records on the Western Slope, understanding its impacts should be a priority for all the western states.JEERS: To the marketing department at Home Depot for proclaiming in a press release, “Frisco Town Council votes to put Home Depot on 9.4-acre parcel.” Later in the release, Home Depot did say the council actually voted to put the issue in front of the public, but not until the very end. Misinformation, no matter how it is presented, is innately wrong, especially when you’re misleading a voter.CHEERS: To Homecoming! The Summit High School events this week have been outstanding. And, the decision to postpone the bonfire due to the recent fire in Farmer’s Korner was a good call. Safety first.
