Cheers and Jeers

CHEERS: To the 991 Frisco voters who turned out for Tuesday’s Home Depot election. It’s a promising sign that so many became actively involved in the debate. The town needs an even greater amount of public input in the next stages to figure out the right direction for Frisco, and the right use for the 9.4-acre parcel. CHEERS: To Breckenridge Ski Resort for landing the Grand Prix this year. It’s been fun to watch all the future Olympians show off in our back yard. CHEERS: To legislators involved in dropping the provision in the federal budget bill that would have opened millions of acres of public land to privatization. There are other sources of revenue for our federal government to find that don’t involve wasting our backcountry.JEERS: To the people involved with recent destruction of homes and property in Silverthorne and Breckenridge. The world would be a better place without criminals who feel the need to destroy and run. CHEERS: To the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center for putting on another successful Ski Spectacular. And, cheers to the BOEC for looking beyond Breckenridge’s borders. Organizers are trying to figure out how to take what the BOEC does best – expanding the potential of people with disabilities – into other communities in our county and beyond.
