Cheers and Jeers

CHEERS: To all those volunteers out for Countywide Town Clean-Up Day today. It’s nice to see a few hundred folks buckling down, getting their hands dirty, and putting a polish on our towns and neighborhoods.CHEERS: To the Summit High School swim team, which is sending several members to state this weekend. Good luck … we know we have some Tigers who can swim better than fish.JEERS: To those who litter around our bus stops. It’s gross, unneeded and, most of the time, there are trash cans within a few feet of the stop.JEERS: To those who vandalized a few stores recently in Summit County. Who are you? What’s your motive, other than boredom? CHEERS: To the water! It’s rafting season, and we know our local river rats are anticipating a good, if not great, season. We just hope our guides remember sunscreen.CHEERS: To Qwest, for refusing to give its customer calling records to the National Security Agency from 2001 to 2004. A website,, is covered in praise for the company, according to the Denver Post. Qwest showed ethics in a time when we all thought it was a lost art among giant corporations.
