Cheers and Jeers

EDITORIAL

CHEERS: To the end-of-the-year performances by Summit High School’s artistic side. Orchestra, choral and art displays have filled the calendar the last two weeks, and the work has been outstanding. Art and music are always the sacrificial lambs of public schooling, and our district does an outstanding job of encouraging ” and understanding ” the appreciation of the arts.

CHEERS: To Annie Black for being named the ski instructor of the year ” this county’s version of the Academy Awards. Annie is passionate about the outdoors and has shared that gift with her kids, who are good athletes as well. Read the SDN this week for the story.

CHEERS: To the upcoming start of the Summit County Softball season. Hundreds of area locals battle it out under the lights all summer, and we want to thank all the umpires, coordinators and volunteers for the hours spent helping everyone have a good time.

JEERS: To those who don’t respect bear season. Keep your trash locked up and away from anywhere a 500-pound animal could get in. And yes, that could mean your garage or your shed, unless it’s got a metal lock and a heavy latch. As the saying goes, feeding bears is killing bears.

JEERS: To our county losing more landmarks in the name of development money. The legendary Skyview Motel will soon be demolished in Frisco, and Granite Street is going to look completely different by the end of the summer. It’s progress of some sort, and signs that Frisco is ” and Frisco is not alone ” distancing itself from its roots.
