Letter to the editor: Here’s why I oppose Colorado House Bill 1040
Frisco
I just sent my objection to House Bill 1040 about nuclear energy to Sen. Dylan Roberts and Rep. Julie McCluskie.
Here are two reasons why I object.
Nuclear energy is not clean or renewable. Besides being expensive to build, ugly by design, and monstrous in size using high volumes of concrete, they take up valuable open space that could be used for natural habitats for wildlife, planting trees and maintaining the beauty of our natural environment. Which would you rather look at — a grove of healthy trees that give off oxygen or a massive pile of concrete?
Storing radioactive waste is a hazard in both the transporting and storage process. There is enough evidence to prove this statement true if one considers the World’s Six Natural Disasters since 1957. I am sure you must care for the safety, health and well-being of our Coloradans. Living in a state that has an average of 300 days of sunshine, certainly you must know that “enough solar energy reaches Earth every hour to fill all the world’s energy needs for a whole year.”
