I was encouraged to read about the felony arrest for the illegal wildfire in Wildernest. Thank you, Sheriff Jaime Fitzsimons and team! I think the Summit Daily missed a great opportunity to publicize the penalties for illegal fires to discourage others from following. As a homeowner, one of my biggest concerns about owning property in Summit County is the risk of fire as well as the ability and expense to get insurance. Irresponsible individuals, mostly visitors, pose an enormous risk to us and this beautiful place. Penalties for illegal fires should be posted everywhere and those who are convicted should have their sentences published.
