Letter to the editor: It’s not wrong to ask visitors to chip in for infrastructure costs

Pat McNamara
Frisco

I’m writing in response to the recent letter to the editor titled “Summit residents don’t mind taking from others.”

I want to start by stating while the author and I disagree on many issues, I appreciate and look forward to reading opinions and stances that oppose my own.

However, I feel it’s important to address that Summit County and the U.S. by extension is clearly and intentionally not a Christian civilization. I feel the establishment and free exercise clause of the First Amendment make this explicitly clear.

As far as taxing the guests of Summit County, I would like to present an analogy of being the guest in a friend or loved one’s house. Good etiquette would be to bring a gift to acknowledge and appreciate the expense you host has spent to make sure you have an enjoyable experience.

I do not feel it’s in poor taste to ask our wonderful guests to bear some of the infrastructure costs of maintaining the best tourism destination we can provide.
