Letter to the editor: My thoughts on development in Frisco and Dillon
Orlando, Florida
I read with interest the article in the Feb. 11 Summit Daily News about the Frisco Planning Commission’s disapproval of a proposed 20-unit development near its Main Street on grounds of size, height, placement and appearance, in comparison and contrast with the Dillon Town Council’s repeated approvals of proposals for much larger developments directly on Dillon’s main streets despite their size, height, placement and appearance.
While it doesn’t have the rustic charm and mountain views of Frisco’s Main Street, Dillon’s lake views and moderate commercial density are arguably at least as important a civic asset that could be developed responsibly over time, yet a majority of its Town Council seems to feel a need to quickly and completely approve any development regardless of size, height, placement or appearance. No, Dillon will never be like Frisco, but that doesn’t mean it should be torn down and rebuilt without care or constraints.
Although my wife and I are long-time owners who love Dillon and spend months there every year, we are not full-time residents and so cannot vote, but we will be very interested to see how the March 4 election turns out.
