Letter to the editor: No plows spotted during huge traffic jam on holiday

My wife and I were part of the huge traffic jam on Interstate 70 on Friday evening of Presidents Day weekend. It was awful, probably the worst driving situation I have ever experienced.

What I found baffling, as a resident of the Midwest — with a lot of years driving in the winter in Chicago, Wisconsin and Minnesota — is that I didn’t see a single snow plow truck on I-70 eastbound the entire six hours while we were driving from Silverthorne to Denver. The road conditions were terrible going through the mountains and approaching the tunnel. I cannot understand the rationale for not having plow trucks out and active in such conditions. Is there a good explanation?
