Letter to the Editor: Stacey Nell is the right choice to lead the Summit County Clerk & Recorder’s Office

Jim Bradley
Breckenridge

I am supporting Stacey Nell in the upcoming election for clerk and recorder of Summit County. An important reason is that the tasks for this position are quite difficult, and she has the requisite experience to handle them efficiently and with the required security.

The are many rules concerning conducting federal, state and county elections. For a single election, these tasks include the following: ballot design and proofing; equipment programming and testing; legal noticing, such as for the Taxpayers Bill of Rights; public information and communication; staffing and training election judges; establishing polling locations; tabulating the ballots; reporting the results; and post-election auditing. Additionally, our county clerk and recorder must protect the county’s voting equipment and processes against physical and cyber security breaches.

Stacey is well qualified to handle these matters. Stacey has a bachelor’s degree from the Michigan State University and has 11 years of local government experience. She has been our Chief Deputy Clerk and Reorder since 2017 and has been extensively involved in 13 Title 1 elections in Summit County. She has performed exceptionally well.

In addition, as our chief deputy clerk, she has been extensively involved with all other functions of the county clerk office, including motor vehicle registrations, marriage licenses, birth certificates and real estate recordings. Because of her experience, I am confident that Stacey can well perform the duties of our county clerk and recorder.
