Letter to the editor: We can get through this pandemic together if we try
Breckenridge
I am 11 years old and am in sixth grade at Summit Middle School. Today, I would like to share with you how coronavirus is impacting our society and all of our lives. I’m sure by now everybody knows how damaging coronavirus can be, but not as many people are aware of how much it can impact us emotionally.
I’ve been researching, and I’ve realized that since this pandemic has spread, there have been far more suicide attempts as well as many more children developing depression or anxiety. Depression as well as anxiety are much more severe than most people realize. It can cause a change in behavior and can even push people as far as being suicidal. Some of the things that help me when I’m struggling with anxiety usually revolve around reading, writing or even talking with someone.
But I understand not everyone is the same, and some things I do won’t work for everyone. Even so, I still felt I should talk about this and at least try to help as many people as humanly possible. I learned that long walks and calming activities help many people deal with this pandemic better.
This virus is affecting both adults and children, but I believe we can get through this together if we try hard enough.
