Letter to the editor: Why does Summit Daily allow opinion columns at all?
Breckenridge
Since when do individuals in our community get to write opinion pieces? I don’t care if it’s Kim McGahey or anyone on the left. It creates an unhealthy discord and commentary from our community. You want to let people write a letter to the editor, a la myself, fine. However, I don’t believe giving citizens a semi-regular opinion piece to voice political opinions is what a newspaper should do.
I was appalled when opinion pieces were allowed to try to sway people how to vote during the election, let alone someone running for office. If you want to state the facts, report the news and give facts on what voting for certain proponents means. That’s great! But don’t just stir up issues and create mayhem in our home. It doesn’t create a healthy discussion, just anger. We don’t need to create more issues than we already have.
