Letter to the editor: Why isn’t CDOT more concerned with Copper traffic?

It’s interesting to me that the Colorado Department of Transportation seems concerned enough about off-ramp overflow onto I-70 near Frisco at Summit Boulevard to design a significant interchange overhaul.
The impacts at off-ramp overflow for Colorado Highway 91 are far more profound, with vehicles backing up onto I-70 for miles before the exit. I have been snarled for nearly an hour during late morning on a bright sunny day attempting to travel to Leadville. In another instance, experienced a 30-minute delay while going to skijoring in Leadville.
As a highway motorist, I’d like to see the left hand lane of I-70 be dedicated for through traffic including over Vail pass and Colorado Highway 91. HOV usage would also make sense to include here.
Perhaps traffic flowing to copper Mountain could be routed through the scenic area just east of the interchange to help get vehicles off I-70 during high congestion periods. This would likely require closing the scenic area for a few hours during these periods.
Perhaps copper Mountain could take a page out of the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area parking management playbook by implementing a reservation system on weekends?
A reservation does not necessarily mean paid parking. It’s simply helps to regulate the flow of traffic. Town of Dillon, take note for summer problem.
I may be naive to think that a few variable message boards and some traffic control devices could have an impact and make for a short-term practical way to help address the problem.
By all means, I ask that the problems with that idea be pointed out, and potential solutions to them be presented.
