Residents in the dark on solar arrays

While Jon Harrington from Alpine Earth Center may be well intentioned, he is not apparently aware of all the facts to be considered when discussing the solar array at Summit Cove Elementary School. As a homeowner on Vail Circle, I did not see or even know about the ground solar array that was being built. Being neither a parent or a grandparent of youngsters at that school, I was not notified by any official source that this was occurring. My only info was that there would be solar panels on the roof, not a full display of panels across the only remaining open space in the cove. We are not a part of any town, but live in unincorporated county land without any direct official person looking out for our general welfare. My taxes help pay for that school, whether or not I have children there, and I fully support paying those taxes and my concerns should be heard as well as parents who were notified by some method I am told. There is a delightful wetlands trail around that open space with a number of signs explaining the value of the space. That was an educational decision made by previous caring educators. But now those youngsters will learn that the space can be torn open and trampled all in the name of clean air and they will now have to walk around the big fence that is planned to protect all those solar panels. Some changes can always be smoothly passed when that is the goal of little notice being taken. Did that deliberately happen here? I don’t have to be a NIMBY to resent such poor notification by newspaper, radio, email or snail mail. My tax bill can reach me with no difficulty.
