Letter to the editor: We must provide equal justice according to our laws

Chuck Savall

Thank you, 5th Judicial District Attorney Heidi McCollum and Chief Judge Paul R. Dunkelman for seeking proper justice for Jesse Flores.

In a society that has forgotten that theft, destruction and fraud are still punishable crimes, this is refreshing to see as a deterrent to others. In comparison, truck driver Rogel Aguilera-Mederos received only 10 years jail time — after recklessly killing four, inflicting life-changing severe injuries on many others and causing massive destruction — thanks to our governor succumbing to social media pressures.

Uninformed public sympathy should never overrule the laws we have passed as a society. As even more details emerge about Mederos’ intentional and greed-driven actions, it’s time for Polis to revisit his quickly made decision and provide equal justice according to our laws.
