Letter to the editor: Why is Biden’s Supreme Court pick not considered discriminatory?

Cliff Hoffmann
Breckenridge

A few months ago, President Joe Biden announced he would only pick a Black woman as his U.S. Supreme Court nominee, and now he has followed through. Translation: no males, no whites, no Hispanics, no Asians, no Indigenous people would be considered.

This is blatant gender and racial discrimination. There was no public outcry, no protests, no riots. The media not only condoned this discrimination, most of them celebrated it!

Have we reached the point of stupidity that we think it’s possible to discriminate for someone without discriminating against someone else? If the decision is an attempt to redress past discrimination, then we must admit that two wrongs make a right and that the ends justify the means. Why should anyone obey societal norms, rules or laws under such circumstances? If a regular citizen tried something like this, they would be demonized, harassed and sued.
