McNeil: Feeling the post office pain (letter)

Wow — do I feel the pain!

After spending most of the month of November making numerous calls to a sender and FedEx, I lodged a complaint on the official USPS website. This prompted a call from the Frisco postmaster, who says he is as frustrated as I am (I sincerely doubt that), but that if the shippers (FedEx, UPS) partner with them, they have to observe their procedures, which is physical address and post office box on the same line.

He acknowledges that whatever you say to the order taker doesn’t always get observed by the shipping department. After the third return, I went to the post office to speak to the postmaster to ask how we can possibly achieve delivery of this package — well-worn by now. Of course, he was off from before Thanksgiving to Monday after; however, the clerk at the window asked if I had a free box or did I pay for it? I said it was free, but what difference did that make.

She said, “it’s an extra benefit — your packages don’t get returned. An incentive to make your life easier”. Verbatim — I kid you not. I asked the sender for a fourth delivery to my business address in Silverthorne; but, three days later, the package arrived at my doorstep by FedEx — and, guess what? The physical address and the post office box were not on the same line.

I won’t waste any more time trying to talk to Frisco Post Office — I’ll just wait until there is a new Postmaster.
