Solar struggle

After being out of the county for vacation, we came home to a very sad construction project in my neighborhood of Summit Cove. Walking the dog along the creek to reacclimate to our altitude, we were struck by a blinding light reflecting off the “solar garden” being constructed in the open fields around Summit Cove Elementary School. Garden connotes a beauty project. Let’s say this is anything but, and it’s nearly impossible to walk around! If there was a notice sent out regarding this project I didn’t see it. And if I did, who would think that panels were going to not only go on the rooftops, which is what I think of when I hear solar energy is being used, but also surround the school with this monstrosity. What a sad day that the bureaucrats could ruin the wonderful open fields around the school, and say it is in the best interest of the county. Seriously? How about lowering the thermostat a few degrees and ask the kiddos to wear a sweater! (I know many a child who wear shorts to school in the middle of winter knowing the building will keep them warm!) How about just panels on the roof tops of all the schools? I personally have never seen such an ugly project surround a school and a community. So glad Summit Cove can lower the school districts power bill at the cost of our neighborhood.
