Ruby Placer owner speaks on controversial project (letter)

I am a 22-year resident of Summit County. My family fell in love with Ruby Placer when we first saw it. We raised our children here, made trails around the property, built our home, attended meetings for others wanting to annex/build in Blue River and have always supported thoughtful progress.

I love this land and will always protect its nature. On Sept. 15, Blue River voters have an opportunity to vote in a special election to annex Ruby Placer. It is simply a vote to annex the property into the town. I want others to be able to live and raise children here.

Many false claims have been made to discourage residents from approving the annexation. To set the record straight: There are no plans for commercial development, and it will be low density at 1.4 units per acre; it is not wilderness area, but we plan to keep much of the 48+ acres for trails/nature walks.

There are numerous benefits to you as residents of Blue River for a YES vote:

• Ruby Placer will generate approximately $100,000 in revenue annually for the town for roads and improvements

• Provide a town community center

• Playground and open field

• 2.8 acres of riverfront open space dedicated to the town

• A public trail system will be open to all residents of Blue River

• A bus shelter will be built when bus service is provided to the town

If the vote to annex Ruby Placer into the town fails, the property will still be developed, but you — as residents of Blue River — will likely not receive any of these benefits. A “yes” vote offers our town that thoughtful progress I believe in, while also benefitting Blue River’s families and its future generations.
