Dillon’s outsized amphitheater project

I must say I was quite surprised by the magnitude of the proposed Dillon amphitheater project. I was on town council when the current facility was implemented in partnership with the Lake Dillon Foundation of the Performing Arts. The plan was for a total replacement of the original structure but funds were only available to build the current stage. Expanding the concrete risers came at a later date. The plan was also to replace the backstage structure with dressing rooms, restrooms and a concession facility at a later date when funds became available. This never happened and I agree it’s time to move forward.

It seems to me that a more cost effective approach to the amphitheater would be to add the new back stage, spruce up the appearance of the stage and add bleacher seating to get the audience off the concrete risers. Does it really need to be a total rebuild at such a huge cost to the town and taxpayers?

Arapahoe Basin and Summit seniors

Summit County seniors and visitors have been enjoying a guided ski program at Arapahoe Basin every Monday, under the sponsorship of Over the Hill Gang International, for over 15 years. The volunteer leadership of that program has determined the affiliation with OHGI is no longer desirable. To preserve the program A-Basin was approached in February to adopt the program, much as was done by Vail Resorts at its Keystone, Breckenridge and Vail mountains under the “50+ Ski-with-Us” programs. To date, A-Basin management has declined to incorporate a senior guided ski program into its offering. Accordingly, the program is doomed to be discontinued with no replacement probable.
