Summit Daily letters: Signs, signs, everywhere a sign on recpath

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign

I just read Phyllis Ohlemacher’s letter regarding common courtesy on the Summit recpath and agree with all but one thing she said.

Everywhere we go, we are inundated with signs. Do this, don’t do that — reminds me of a song from a long time ago, but that’s a story for another time.

What makes the recpath nice is the lack of signs. Please don’t pollute the recpath with signs. A sign with tips at the parking areas may be appropriate, but keep them off the recpath itself.

Hope for a new generation

Re: Kaeli Subberwal’s July 7 SDN column “Moving beyond our American rituals.”

Thank you for your wonderful article in Thursday’s SDN. I must admit that I haven’t been very supportive of your generation in the past, as I have judged many of your peers as “spoiled,” “privileged” and “uniformed” — which, based on the thoughtfulness of your article, does not appear to be your personality.

I know you are an intern for the SDN, and, hopefully, as you go forward with your career, you will not get bogged down in ideology as so many of your media peers are doing, which, in my opinion, has led to much of the cultural and political polarization we are experiencing today. Many of them skew the facts to fit their agendas, which it makes difficult for those trying to discern the truth in many situations — for example, immigration, health care, terrorism, etc.

So, again, thanks. It’s good for us in our golden years to know that there are younger people who really appreciate and understand what “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” is and what it takes to achieve them.

Keep up the good work.
