McManus: Speed ruining rec path safety (letter)

We have owned our property in Frisco for eight years. We have paid taxes to support the area and backed the economy by buying local … liberally!

As senior citizens, we have loved walking and riding the paved recreational paths in Summit County. However, our level of comfort in using these areas that we have helped finance has plummeted. Daredevil longboarders as well as bikers whose goal is to ride as fast as they can without regard or courtesy warnings to others is not acceptable. These people do not own the recpaths, any more than we casual bikers do, but they seem to treat them as their own personal race track. Dangerous behavior cannot be tolerated. I am astonished that there is even discussion of this subject!

In addition, it would be helpful if the Summit Daily would publish, by way of a map, the routes of sanctioned bike races in Summit County on the dates they are to occur. Then we could avoid usage of these great paths on those days, as they get to enjoy racing on them!
