Pro Challenge a curse for Breckenridge condo association (letter)

For the second year in a row, the USA Pro Challenge and the town of Breckenridge has ignored the rights of the property owners of The Blazing Saddles Commercial and Condominium Association.

Your guests, vendors and race organizers — without seeking permission — have caused numerous problems for our residents and businesses. Our parking lot is the last big lot on Park Avenue. We pay for it and use it for our residents and business customers.

What right did the town and the race organizers have to occupy our property? And then, without asking. Who do you think you are?

Our businesses and residents do not benefit at all from your event and are left to clean up after your event. Did the town or race organizers offer to indemnify us against subrogation should someone get hurt? No. In fact they never sought permission in the first place, leaving us to have to inform your guests of the no-parking rules, listening to them cop their big-city attitude and once actually threatening an employee. The Chinese restaurant was virtually out of business for the race days.

It is enough that the concerts and special events at Riverwalk Center treat our private property as their overflow lot without the least concern for the liability position the town puts us in. Well, here’s the news: Next year, we tow — no warnings, no stickers if your guest’s car is not here when they get back; tell them to read the private parking signs, and call the tow companies.
