Thumbs up, Thumbs down is a short take on events or issues that we find agreeable and not so agreeable.

Thumbs down:

From a resident who did not leave his/her name. Thumbs down to Vail who has been cloud-seeding for many years to take care of their snow needs at our expense. Summit County business gets screwed every early season. Now, we even see the effects in the lake and our bone-dry forests. Who has the right to permit this? Tell your commissioners to please make them stop.

Environmentalists, where are you on this one? Stop the weather modification and let nature decide.

Thumbs down:

To the town of Frisco for using water to clean the dirt off the triangular snow storage area at the intersection of Main Street and Summit Boulevard. Lake Dillon is 24-feet below normal. This is the third year of drought conditions, and some parts of the state already are implementing water restrictions. It seems the town could be a good role model and sweep the area instead.

Thumbs up:

To Summit County community members for their terrific effort April 13 at the Chris Ethridge Memorial spaghetti dinner and silent auction. The auction raised more than $11,000 toward the installation of a public art piece dedicated to Ethridge’s spirit and life.

Thumbs down:

To smokers who throw their cigarette butts out the window of their car or on the ground. When the Summit Daily News employees picked up trash this weekend along Highway 9, there was an endless supply of butts. Just because they are small, doesn’t mean it’s not litter. There’s an ashtray in your car for a reason. Use it!
