One way or another, the fate of Frisco’s 9.4-acre development parcel behind the Summit Stage’s Frisco transfer center is going to a vote. Why not make it Nov. 2?Protesters against a possible shopping center development have promised as much. Wednesday at the town meeting on the future of the site, Mayor Bernie Zurbriggen said “we may do that” – referring to an election.Local businessman Don Sather, who wants to put an Ace Hardware Solutions store in the center if the community agrees to it, also called for a vote.Zurbriggen is hoping that Wednesday’s town meeting, one planned for June 14, and others will help the town prepare for a vote where the majority is greater than 51 percent. That’s how Frisco elections usually go, and 49 percent go home frustrated, he said. He’s shooting for a consensus of 70 to 80 percent. “We will never get 100 percent, but we can get a lot further than 51 percent if we work at it,” the mayor said.Judging from the town meeting, the town may already be at the mayor’s goal, except in a vote against developing the town parcel.Still, there could be a silent majority out there in favor of the Alberta Development Partners proposal that could produce $1 million in sales taxes revenues. That’s why a vote should be sooner than later so Frisco can get on with its business – which may be adjusting to the reality that services may have to be cut to reflect revenues.
