Eili Wright

Eili Wright is the Summit County government, education, business and real estate reporter for the Summit Daily News. She is from Dayton, Ohio and joined the Summit Daily team in May of 2022 right after graduating from Denison University with a major in English creative writing and a concentration in narrative journalism.

At school, Eili (pronounced eye-lee) was on the varsity swim team for two years, then decided to retire to focus on her career goals. She spent her time volunteering with Denison’s Peer Sex Educator program, was a DJ at Denison’s long-running radio station, WDUB the Doobie, and was a health and poverty reporting fellow for the Denisonian, Denison’s school newspaper.

The spring of Eili’s junior year, she took an Advanced Journalism course with executive editor of the Columbus Dispatch Alan Miller. By the end of the semester, she had shown so much passion for the work that she was offered a position at the Columbus Dispatch as a life and arts reporter on the Metro Desk for the summer of 2021.

By senior year, Eili got off Denison’s campus any chance she could to backpack, climb, hammock, and camp. In fact, the main reason she wanted to move to Summit County was the emphasis on the outdoors as a normal part of everyday life. When she can’t quite figure out the tension of a story, is stuck on wording, or is waiting for a subject to call her back, she’s been known to go on walks outside the office to catch some sun before heading back to her desk.
