Arapahoe Basin, Loveland senior ski passes some of cheapest in state

At Granby Ranch this winter, “Golden Seniors” (aged 70 and older) pay only $79 for a season pass. It's a rare exception among the senior-aged season passes that is actually cheaper than Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Loveland Ski Area's reasonable prices for this season.

If you’re a senior aged 70 or older here in Summit County, both Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Loveland Ski Area are offering reasonable passes for the 2017-18 season.

At Loveland, the ski area at the Continental Divide just east of Summit County is offering a $99 season pass for unlimited skiing and riding for seniors ages 70 and older.

At A-Basin, the ski area’s Senior Pass costs just $105 and provides unlimited and unrestricted skiing and riding for those 70 and older for the full season, plus additional discounts for friends and family.

A-Basin is also offering discounted daily lift tickets for seniors, such as $40 for those $70 and older. Also semi-seniors — those between the ages of 60-69 — can receive a varied discounted rate throughout the season at the Basin.

Compared to other ski areas across the state, both Loveland and A-Basin’s season-long deals are some of the cheapest prices. At nearby Ski Cooper, seniors aged 60-69 can purchase a season pass for $279, while “Super Seniors” (70-79) pay $149. Ski Cooper also offers an 80-and-older “Super Seniors+” pass that permits skiers and riders in that age range to downhill all season for free.

At Granby Ranch, seniors between the ages of 61 and 69 can buy a season pass for $259, while “Golden Seniors” (age 70+) pay only $79.

At Summit County’s Copper Mountain Resort, seniors over the age of 70 receive a season pass for $389. For senior skiers and riders at Copper who’d like to explore the mountain with peers, Copper Mountain offers the “Over the Hill Gang” program for skiers aged 50 and above. This group was formed in the early days of the resort and offers group clinics, lift priority access and friendship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season.

Over at Aspen Snowmass, those 70 and older can purchase a Premier pass for $514. Aspen Snowmass also partners with Bumps for Boomers, an innovative Aspen ski lesson program designed to teach intermediate-level Baby Boomer and senior skiers how to ski moguls and how to ski powder.

Powderhorn Resort this season is inviting seniors aged 50 and above to join the “Young at Heart” group every Thursday for small group riders with intermediate skills to explore the mountain and build relationships.

Purgatory Resort offers senior skiers 60 and older the “Boomers on Groomers,” program, a 3-clinic series that meets every Wednesday in February for half-day clinics.

Steamboat Resort also offers “Mountain Masters,” a complimentary ski tour for skiers and riders 50 and older on primarily blue and groomed black trails.

Telluride Ski Resort’s Palmyra Pass offers free and unlimited skiing and riders for those 80 and older. For Telluride skiers and snowboarders over the age of 50, the “Silver Skier” program offers the opportunity to explore the mountain and meet others who share the same passions over a 4-session clinic.

Wolf Creek Ski Area’s new “Forever Young Ski & Board Clinic” is specifically designed for seniors skiers and boarders 50 and older to enroll in a discounted 2-hour morning lesson, instructed by a qualified senior instructor while skiing on a discounted full-day lift ticket.
