Hockey fans: Now’s your chance to support the next generation of local collegiate players.

The Breckenridge Bears, the newest member of the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League, is looking for local families to host players during the season. Because players are often far away from home, it is important that they have a stable living situation in Breckenridge that’s close to practice and games.

A release from the Bears gives details on the gig:

Players range in age from 16 to 20 years old and train daily on and off the ice.

Players need living arrangements from mid-September through early March for the winter seasons. All players go home over the Christmas holiday break, unless agreed upon with the host family. Players begin arriving Sept. 6.

As seasonal guests, players are expected to follow all team and house rules with a host family. They must also show respect and consideration for all family members.

Each host family receives a monthly stipend for each player they host, as well as season tickets for all members of the family. The club is seeking comfortable housing situations, with families that demonstrate a well-balanced, family-oriented lifestyle.

For collegiate hopefuls, a good host family is more than a room. It’s becomes an opportunity to find mentors and new friends, as well as become role models for aspiring youth players who dream of playing collegiate hockey.

If interested in hosting a Breck Bears player, contact billet coordinator Tracie Edstrom at (719) 839-1233 or head coach Zac Desjardins at (303) 345-3566.
