Breckebeiner 60K race will raise thousands for BOEC

BRECKENRIDGE – It’s nearly mountain bike season, but one more Nordic event lives to test late-winter skier endurance.

The Breckebeiner 60K cross-country race and skiathon on March 28 will bring skiers of all abilities to the Breckenridge Nordic Center.

Proceeds will benefit the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center’s programs for people with disabilities and special needs.

The Breckebeiner 60K course will follow a scenic 6K loop at the Breckenridge Nordic Center.

One aid station at the start of each loop will have energy drinks, water and food for participants.

The party will include hearty food, Breckenridge Brewery beer, music and more.

Named after the infamous American Birkebeiner Nordic ski race, the Breckebeiner 60K is a pledge event. Skiers of all ages and abilities are welcome.

The race for speedy skiers will begin at 8:30 a.m., while pledge laps will start at 9:30 a.m. for those who wish to take a more leisurely pace.

Basic entry is a $1 donation per kilometer you plan to ski, and all skiers are asked to raise pledges in addition to the entry donation.

Individuals skiing solo or as part of a team who raise more than $250 will receive a free 2004-05 Nordic ski pass.

Top fundraisers will be rewarded with other prizes as well.

Pre-registration is required.

This event raised more than $12,000 for the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center in 2003.
