Breckenridge North Face Speaker Series to feature Sage Cattabriga-Alosa
The North Face Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series returns to Breckenridge this Saturday, Oct. 4. Acclaimed Teton Gravity Research big mountain skier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa will be the featured athlete at this year’s event at the River Run Center.
Touted as one of the biggest names in the ski film industry, Cattabriga-Alosa earned Best Male Performance honors in Powder magazine’s video awards in 2004, 2009 and 2011. While known for his accomplishments in the mountains, when he isn’t charging lines in the backcountry, Cattabriga-Alosa turns his focus to art and music — two of his lesser-known passions.
Saturday’s speaker series presentation will feature a showing of “A Light Dose,” a film segment by Adam Clark and action sports film company Teton Gravity Research. Also part of TGR’s 2014 release “Almost Ablaze,” “A Light Dose” depicts what happens when Cattabriga-Alosa’s worlds of art and skiing collide, documenting how his artistic ideas are brought to life and intertwine with his skiing.
The ski sequence involves Cattabriga-Alosa sking at night through a series of video projections on the snow, accompanied by music. The presentation will also delve into the making of the segment.
Cattabriga-Alosa will be on hand to present and discuss the clip and host a question-answer session.
The event, which benefits the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, begins with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at The North Face Breckenridge store at 322 Main St. VIP tickets cost $20 and include preferred seating during the main event, a meet-and-greet with Cattabriga-Alosa, as well as beer from Joyride Brewing and food and wine provided by the Briar Rose restaurant in Breckenridge.
The main event, which includes a raffle, takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Riverwalk Center, 150 West Adams St., in Breckenridge. Raffle tickets can be purchased online at http://www.thenorthface.com/speakerseries or at the event. Raffle tickets are $5 a piece, three for $10 or 10 for $20. Event tickets also are available on The North Face’s speaker series website. Ticket options include $5 for children 12 and under, $10 to guarantee a seat for the main event and $20 for the VIP event.
Proceeds from VIP tickets and a portion of other ticket sales will benefit the BOEC, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to providing outdoor experiences to people of all abilities and specializing in assisting those with disabilities and special needs. There are a limited number of free tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Never Stop Exploring series is presented by GORE-TEX® and runs nationwide from August 2014 through January 2015. Climber Conrad Anker was the featured guest at last year’s Breckenridge event.
