Breck’s Beardsley races to 11th at Freedom 100

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

INDIANPOLIS – Matt Beardsley of Breckenridge qualified 11th for the Futuba Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Friday with a two-lap average speed of 185.564 miles per hour. The race is the third of the Menards Infiniti Pro Series season.

“It wasn’t the best,” Beardsley said. “We needed another two or three miles per hour. I am a little lost as to where we are right now. We haven’t found the speed we need.”

He drove his Jugular/Landtitle Dallara/Infiniti-powered car.

A year ago, Beardsley crashed on the first lap and was scored in the 18th finishing position.

“I intend to stay out of trouble for the first three or four laps,” Beardsley added. “In traffic, we will have to fight for every position we get.”

In the first two races of the season, Beardsley’s best finish was an eighth place at Phoenix in March.

Brazilian driver Thiago Medeiros captured the pole position with a speed of 189.274 mph.

He is also the point leader, winning the Phoenix race and finishing runner-up in the season opener at Homestead, Fla.

The Futaba Freedom 100 will be aired live on ESPN2 at noon on Saturday.
