Breck’s citizens golf series under way

Daily Staff Writer

The Breckenridge Golf Club kicked off its 2004 men’s and women’s club seasons this week, with the ladies taking to the links Tuesday afternoon and the men doing the same on Wednesday. The first event for both clubs was a blind partners team competition, where players’ scores were randomly combined after the competitors had completed their rounds.

In the women’s competition, the winning team was Anita Koverman and Sophie Willemsen, who finished with an impressive net score of 57. Cathy Boland and Diane Knapp took second, just one stroke behind the winners. Two teams tied for third on the women’s side, with each shooting a 61. Jeanie Clancy and Diane DeSilva made up one of the third-place teams, while Cindy Nicholson and her computer-drawn mystery partner also shot 61.

Leading the way for the men’s club was the team of Jim Byers and Tom Begley, who shot a net 54. Michael Moran and his mystery computer partner shot 57, good enough for second, and Nick Doran and Cary Cooper finished at 58 to take third. Bryan Scott-Williams teamed with Allan Johnson to take fourth.
