Casual Bicycle Classic starts in Breckenridge

VAIL – The Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation is pleased to present its annual Casual Bicycle Classic Sunday, Sept. 7 to benefit the ECO Trails and the Eagle County Regional Trails System.

Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to come support the ECO Trails effort to construct a safe and scenic regional system from Vail Pass to Glenwood Canyon.

Riders will take part in a 38-mile casual ride beginning in Breckenridge and heading to Frisco.

Next, they will enjoy a gradual creekside climb to Copper Mountain, followed by five miles to the Vail Pass summit.

Finally, coast predominantly downhill, 16 miles to the Bully Ranch at the Sonnenalp Resort for a barbecue and prizes.

Over 150 riders are expected to participate again this year. The emphasis on this ride is fun.

This is not a race.

As an option this year, interested cyclists can ride both directions (a total of 76 miles), leaving from the Sonnenalp Resort at 7:30 am.

Registration for the Casual Bicycle Classic begins at 10:30 am in the Breckenridge skier parking lot. Shuttle service is available to the Vail Pass summit for those not interested in riding the uphill.

A shuttle will be provided back to Breckenridge after the barbecue.

Aid stations are available throughout the course, with a full southwestern style barbecue at the Bully Ranch following the ride.

Preregistration is $50 per adult, $40 for kids ages 7-14 years old and kids 6-and-under are free.

Day-of-ride registration is $55 per adult and $45 per child. Registration includes transportation, t-shirt, refreshments on the course, a chance to win fabulous prizes and the barbecue.
