Colorado, Washington Treasurer’s offices throw down Super Bowl bet

With Super Bowl XLVIII pitting the Denver Broncos against the Seattle Seahawks, Colorado Treasurer Walker Stapleton and Washington Treasurer James McIntire have each ponied up a wager.

McIntire put up Washington salmon while Stapleton threw Colorado lamb chops into the pot. Each treasurer is clearly betting on their respective state’s teams and so far there is no action on the over/under.

“Usually Treasurer’s offices do not get involved in betting on their home teams, but in light of Gov. Hickenlooper’s refusal to formally wager on the Broncos, I thought it was my duty to step up and defend the honor of the Broncos and Colorado,” joked Stapleton. “As a sign of good will and camaraderie, I will share the spoils with the Governor’s office even though he is choosing to stay on the sidelines. After all, we are all united in orange as Broncos fans.”

Along with the bet, each Treasurer has agreed to make a donation to a charity of their choice. Treasurer Stapleton has chosen the Boys and Girls Club, where he serves on the board.

“We wanted to make sure that regardless of who wins on Sunday that we each support a local charity and the great work they do in our communities and states,” Stapleton said.
