EVERGREEN “The Summit High School boys basketball team wrapped up its regular season with a 48-38 loss to Evergreen on Thursday.
“We stayed in the game with them,” Tigers coach Mike Rathgeber said after his team dropped to 14-9 (3-5 in the 4A Jeffco League). “We just didn’t have enough firepower to get over the top.”
Summit’s standout point guard Tucker Shelden scored a season-low seven points while playing with the flu.
“Tucker didn’t have his explosiveness,” Rathgeber said. “We weren’t able to run some of the plays we normally like to run for him.”
Bryce Krampert led Summit in scoring with 10 points.
The Tigers, who have amassed their best record in 18 years, according to Rathgeber, will be informed of their first-round playoff opponent on Sunday.
Lady Tigers struggle in regular-season finale
Summit High School’s girls basketball team fell to the Cougars 55-32 on Thursday after committing 33 turnovers.
“It was a long night,” Summit coach Dylan Hollingsworth said. “It was frustrating ” with all the intensity we played with on Tuesday, I was hoping we could come out and match it, but we weren’t able to.”
Alyssa Tallmadge scored eight points for the Tigers (8-13, 5-4 in 4A Jeffco) and Lynlee Holloway chipped in seven.
Now all that’s left for Hollingsworth and company to do is wait for selection Sunday.
“We’re just crossing our fingers, hoping the selection committee finds a way to get us in,” Hollingsworth said. “I think we’ll probably make it, but anything is possible. It will be really interesting to see.”
