Everything you could ever want of mountain biking

KEYSTONE – The Snake River Fat Tire Festival in Keystone is not only the ultimate showcase of the best mountain bikers in the Rocky Mountain region, but it’s also a great chance for those who have dabbled in the sport to learn more about it than they could ever want to know.

“Even if you’re not competing, it’s the best opportunity anyone will ever have to do a free rec ride or to test ride a high end bicycle,” said Snake River Fest organizer Thane Wright. “If no one’s ever been on a $4,000 full-suspension bike, here’s their chance.”

The Snake River Fest begins today with bike expos, free recreational rides, a professional stunt showcase, kids’ races and the best riders in the region competing in the final events of the Mountain States Cup series. Competition kicks off at 10 a.m. with cross country circuit racing at the top of Keystone Mountain and concludes with observed trials in the River Run base area. Sunday, the spotlight turns onto the all-mountain cross country race, and wraps up Monday with the much-anticipated downhill race.

“These are the top mountain bikers in the five-state Rocky Mountain region,” Wright said. “Being the finals, it’s going to be an amazing spectator event.”

Riders interested in racing can still sign up in River Run throughout the day today and Sunday. Registration fees start at $35, and riders must also purchase a $5 NORBA license. For race times or more information, visit http://www.mtnstatescup.com, or http://www.keystoneresort.com.
