Former Summit High rugby players dominate college level

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Three former Summit High School club rugby players helped the Eastern Illinois women’s team to an 8-1 record this season.

Allegra Hoopingarner from Breckenridge played in all nine games, scored a try an tallied an assist against Dayton on her way to a solid defensive season, as well. Hoopingarner notched 19 solo and 35 assisted tackles, including a 13-tackle day at Stanford.

Amanda Nowaczyk from Frisco was a sophomore and had a three-tackle day against Iowa State.

Casey McClain of Silverthorne is a junior hooker was tied for sixth in the team in assists.

The Panthers have won 19 of their last 20 games and outscored their opponents this season 405-91.

“With all we accomplished last season, it would have been difficult to top it, but the team did,” said head coach Frank Graziano, who owns a 35-13 record in his five years at Eastern. “This was an incredible season.”

The Panthers averaged 45 points per game and trailed at halftime only once all season. Eastern’s only loss came at Penn State.
