Free Frisco rail garden open for skiers, snowboarders for May

Hey park rats: The season ain’t over until it’s over.

In early May, the staff at the Frisco Adventure Park started farming snow for the second annual Frisco rail garden. It opened soon after with five features — three down bars, one double-kink and a low-lying snowmaking pipe — and will stay open from now until the snow is gone or the rails are pulled, whichever comes first. It’s the only public place to ride rails in Summit County until Woodward Copper opens the Big Island park in early June, and it’s made for all ages, from groms to vets who can’t go two weeks without riding.

Oh, and did we mention it’s free?

The rail garden is open from dawn (or about 8 a.m.) until dusk this spring. All features are hike-to, with no lift service, and the snow is groomed once daily at night. The rest of the grooming and shaping is up to skiers and snowboarders throughout the day. There might be tools out there, but if you have a rake or shaper, bring it — things will get slushy out there as the days heat up.

Also open right now in Frisco is the skatepark — also open from dawn to dusk — and a handful of Peninsula trails. The dirt jumps won’t open for another few weeks while park staff does maintenance. For more info on openings across town, see TownOfFrisco.com.
