The ski and ride hill at the Frisco Adventure Park will host its second free community ski race Monday evening, March 16.

The race is part of the new Frisco Adventure Park Bubble Gum Ski Race Series, which includes three scheduled public races and the potential for a fourth. The park held the first race last Monday evening. Officials from the town of Frisco said the event is already a big success and that they hope it will continue in the future. The races are intended for a wide range of abilities — from “never ever” to seasoned racer — and ages.

The event is a non-competitive community race series intended to provide an opportunity for children and adults to try out racing in an unintimidating environment.

Races will take place on the park’s beginner ski terrain near the Frisco penninsula.

“We welcome everyone to come out and participate in what I hope will become a community tradition,” park general manager Jon “Zeke” Zdechlik said. “There really is no race experience required to join in.”

Races are not timed. Instead participants are given pieces of bubble gum that they keep or give away based on their race finishes. The racer who has the most bubble gum at the end of the races wins. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate in the Bubble Gum Cup. Organizers said friendly competition among parents, siblings and friends is encouraged.

“The Frisco Adventure Park ski and ride hill is really a hidden gem in Summit County,” park general manager Jon “Zeke” Zdechlik said. “This hill reminds me of the friendly community hills of my childhood where families learned to ski and race together, and the lodge and base were a stone’s throw from the hill. ” The Bubble Gum Series races are free to enter. Race-day registration is open from 4-5 p.m. inside the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge. Races will run from approximately 5-6 p.m. Participants must provide their own ski equipment and helmets in order to race. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served at the lodge after the race.
